Reboot Your Mac into Windows with Quicksilver and an AppleScript [Video]

If you're a dual booter and you want a quick and easy way to reboot from OS X into Windows, this AppleScript coupled with the magic of Quicksilver will do so with just a few keystrokes.

While you could always hold Option as you reboot or change your startup disk from System Preferences, this method is by far the easiest way to reboot your Mac into Windows. Just open up AppleScript Editor and paste in the following code:

(where WINDOWS is the name of your Windows drive). Save the AppleScript anywhere you want—I saved mine as "Reboot Into Windows.scpt" in my dedicated Scripts folder.

If you haven't already, you'll need to add your Scripts folder to Quicksilver's catalog. Open up Quicksilver's preferences and hit the Catalog tab, then hit the plus sign. Navigate to your Scripts folder and add it. Once you have, look to the dropdown on the right-hand side of the window and choose "Folder Contents". This will catalog all the scripts in that folder for launching with Quicksilver.

Now, you can just trigger Quicksilver, type "reboot" and your reboot script will pop up, rebooting you right into Windows. Alternatively, you can also give it a hotkey with Quicksilver's Triggers function (located in the Preferences), if you prefer. I even gave it a cool icon that I had lying around on my computer. Hit the link for more info on other ways to use Quicksilver with this script.

Note: Unfortunately, this trick doesn't work if you are using previously mentioned NTFS-3G to write to your Windows drive. If you disable NTFS-3G in System Preferences and reboot, this script will work. As such, if you want to use this trick, I'd recommend disabling NTFS-3G and only enabling it during sessions where you actually need to write to your Windows drive.

LCDDensity Fakes a Higher Resolution on Your Rooted Android Phone [Downloads]

Android: If you find that you're doing too much scrolling on your phone, free app LCDDensity will artificially let you increase your resolution, making browsing and menu navigation a snap.

If you've rooted your phone, you can just download LCDDensity from the Market and use it to change the appearance of your phone with a simple slider. Slide it to the left and your phone will appear to have a larger resolution, with smaller icons, more pictures per page in the Gallery app, and so on. If you use ADW or LauncherPro's ability to fit more icons on your home screen, this should also help make things a little less cramped-looking. It may seem weird at first, but I've found a very mild increase in resolution makes browsing quite a bit easier on my phone, and navigating things like the Android Market are nicer too:

Step Away From Your Desk for a More Focused Environment [Productivity]

If you're tired of constant distractions while working at your desk and losing focus as you switch between tasks, the simplest solution might be the best one: move.

Sarah Rapp from Behance experimented with two methods to see which offered more focus and productivity. Ultimately, what worked best was her ability to assign specific tasks between different working stations. For example, she'd handle her long term to-dos on a laptop in a coffee shop or conference room. The change in scenery and isolation helped her focus on her long-term tasks.

Returning to her desk, she was then able to switch focus immediately and spend time responding to her email, tweets, and other social engagements.

Breaking up the workday by leaving the office made both halves of the day much more manageable, and gave me the chance to "reset" my workspace and mental state. Forced to leave my desk (and its pile-up of open web browser tabs), I had no choice but to slow down and stop madly clicking between things.

If you're having trouble focusing at work, and find it difficult to split your time between multiple machines, Sarah suggests the following:

Slow down and choose a single task to work on.Mimic a "school day" by creating blocks of time dedicated to specific tasks.Leave your desk, even if it's just with a notepad and pen.
