Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Language Packs (Original MUI Download)

The Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 RTM has been finalized and signed off by Microsoft. With each new major version revision of Windows Server 2008 R2, the MUI (Multilingual User Interface) language packs has to be updated too. MUI language packs (Windows Server Language Packs) enable a multilingual user interface in a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment.

Language packs are normally available for download via Windows Update. Microsoft does release standalone update packages in .cab cabinet files format in the form of DVD ISO image, typically to volume licensing customers, MSDN or TechNet subscribers and OEM partners, which can be used for offline installation or slipstream into ISO image. Adding one or more language packs to a Windows Server 2008 R2 image enables one or more languages in the installed Windows Server operating system, allowing corporations to deploy the same Windows Server 2008 R2 image worldwide while still providing localized user interfaces.

As Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is not officially launched yet, the language packs for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is not yet available in Windows Update. But the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 MUI language packs have also been leaked, and available for free download via BitTorrent (BT) network and various file hosting services.

Windows Home Server 2011 Release Candidate availability announced

Along with the RC, Microsoft has also released an update to the Windows Server Solutions SDK which provides tools and information to develop add-ins and extend the functionality of Windows Home Server 2011.

A new Move Folder Wizard makes it easy for you to move data from one drive to another. As Hard Drives are added to the Home Server, your health alerts will notify you that a new Hard Drive is available. From here, you can automatically format and configure the new drive for additional storage.

How to Continue Syncing Bookmarks with Xmarks on Your Own Server [Video]

Xmarks—our favorite bookmark-syncing tool—closes its doors in January 2011. That's horrible news for millions of loyal Xmarks users, but the world doesn't have to end. Here's how to continue using Xmarks by hosting your bookmarks on your own server.

The Bad News

Before we get started, here's the bad news: Currently, only the Firefox version of Xmarks supports hosting bookmarks on your own server. That means that one of the primary reasons many of us around Lifehacker HQ use Xmarks—to sync bookmarks across different browsers like Chrome and Firefox—still isn't available. (We hear that Xmarks may consider open-sourcing their extensions, which means this method could work across browser platforms in the future; for now, though, it's Firefox only.)

You've still got a few reasons why you might want to host and sync your Xmarks bookmarks yourself. For one, you get absolute control over your bookmarks—always nice for the tin-foil hat crowd. It also means you can continue using the bookmark syncing tools you're already comfortable and familiar with. For some, that's reason enough. If not, you may want to consider switching to the built-in syncing tools that ship with your browser of choice—Xmarks highlights each here.
